Museikon, from physical to virtual reality: a continuous challenge, Tuesday, February 21, 4:00PM – 5:30PM GMT / 8:00AM – 9:30AM PST, Online via Zoom
After securing an EEA Grant, Museikon was required to make their entire collection of icons and ancient books available to the public, which they accomplished by digitizing and displaying the approximately 3600 objects on their website and on Europeana. Once Museikon was closed to the public between April 2020 and April 2021 due to the Covid pandemic, the museum refused to suspend its educational activity and took advantage of the surge of online approaches to physical facilities. As a result of the collaboration with the Kunstmatrix platform, all exhibitions moved to virtual spaces, and the museum education classes and conferences were organized through Google Meet and Zoom video communication services. The social impact simply exploded, although the museum realizes and accepts that there must have been a significant difference between the number of those who morally supported virtual events and those who actually watched them. The major challenge was the inability to have the exact number of views – Kunstmatrix refused to provide this information – which is why they suspended the collaboration and endeavoured to organize their own virtual space.
This event is free to attend, but registration is required.
