DH Monday: Toward a More Inclusive Digital Art History: A Roundtable and a second CFP

Panorama: The Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art

Roundtable: April 30, 10:00 – 11:00 (PDT)
Proposals due: April 30, 2022

Panorama: Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art and the Terra Foundation for American Art are proud to present the second installment of their collaborative Digital Art History Symposia, part of Panorama’s Terra-sponsored initiative “Toward a More Inclusive Digital Art History.” This roundtable discussion features three scholars on the forefront of digital methodologies in art history: Prof. Dana E. Byrd (Art History, Bowdoin College), Prof. Farès el-Dahdah (Art History, Rice University), and Prof. Briana Heggeseth (Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, Macalester College). The roundtable will be moderated by Dr. Diana Seave Greenwald, Panorama’s Digital Art History Editor.

The participants will discuss the multifaceted world of digital art history, from envisioning and starting a digital art history project, to the issues and successes of collaboration, to the possible pitfalls of working in this subdiscipline. After brief presentations by each of the participants about their work, we will hold a moderated discussion followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience. Click here for more info and to register.

The announcement of this even accompanies the release of a second Call for Proposals for this initiative. Proposals should include a 500-word abstract and a sample of the data that will be analyzed—this can be a simple spreadsheet or even an appendix-like list. The accepted project will work closely with our Digital Art History Editor and Project Manager to bring their work to fruition. To assess our ability to aid in this process, we need a data sample to evaluate the amount of work required. Although not a requirement, we especially encourage co-authored proposals. Proposals should be sent to journalpanorama@gmail.com with the subject heading “Digital Art History CFP response.”
