United States Indigenous Data Sovereignty Network (USIDSN)

The U.S. Indigenous Data Sovereignty Network (USIDSN) is an organization dedicated to ensuring that data concerning Indigenous Peoples in the United States is utilized to advance their collective and individual well-being. By offering research information, training opportunities, and policy advocacy, USIDSN safeguards the rights and promotes the interests of Indigenous communities in relation to their data.

In April 2024, USIDSN hosted the largest Indigenous Data Sovereignty & Governance Summit to date in Tucson, Arizona. This landmark event convened scholars, academics, and Indigenous leaders to discuss strategies for advancing Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance. One significant outcome was the release of the “Indigenous Data Governance Brief,” summarizing insights from the summit and outlining actionable steps for Indigenous communities to assert control over their data.

For those interested in delving deeper into Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance, USIDSN offers a wealth of resources, including event information, courses, and a comprehensive history of the movement. Engaging with these materials empowers individuals and organizations to support and uphold the data rights of Indigenous Peoples.

To stay informed about upcoming events and initiatives, consider subscribing to the USIDSN newsletter or following their social media channels. Active participation and support are crucial in promoting data practices that respect and enhance Indigenous sovereignty.
