ARLIS/NA Multimedia & Technology Reviews Co-editors are seeking volunteers to author reviews for the October 2022 issue. To volunteer, choose a resource from the list below (note: The snippets below are taken from each resource’s web page and are not necessarily the opinions of the M&T Reviews Co-Editors):
- RKDartists&: Biographical database from Netherlands Institute for Art History / RKD – Nederlands Instituut voor Kunstgeschiedenis. Covers thousands of Dutch and foreign artists from the middle ages to the present day. Also includes information on art dealers, collectors, and historians.
- TACS Database of UK Architectural Ceramics Locations: Compiled by the Tiles & Architectural Ceramics Society. Lists nearly 6000 sites, noting the location, type of building, and manufacturer. Links to descriptive information in the society’s Tile Gazetteer and other key reference sources.
- The Living New Deal: An interactive website documenting a range of resources on New Deal public works–photographs, site information, historical documents, personal accounts, etc.–accessible by location, agency, and artists. Offers an iPhone app or website form for crowd sourced identification of additional WPA sites.
- Penguin First Editions: Detailed listing of titles issued in the first 21 years of publishing Penguin paperback titles, from 1935-1956. Includes an index of book cover designers with illustrations.
- Digitized historical weeklies from Klassik Stiftung Weimar: Simplicissimus, Jugend, and Der Wahre Jacob (**Note: reviewer must have reading knowledge of German): Collaborative digitization project presenting three popular German weekly satire magazines founded in the imperial era and continuing beyond the years of the Weimar Republic. Jugend is a valuable source of German Art Nouveau illustration. The titles also feature many political cartoons.
- Akademie Schloss Solitude: Online publications from a Stuttgart-based international, transdisciplinary contemporary arts residency include the Solitude Journal and Untranslatable, Terms of Cultural Practices. Archived Schlosspost content from 2015-2020 is also available at https://schloss-post.com/.
- MIMO: Musical Instrument Museums Online: The world’s largest freely accessible database for information on musical instruments held in public collections. Illustrated entries Indexed by instrument families, museums, and instrument makers.
